Main duties of the job- To work as a skilled member of a nursing team.

Job responsibilities- Recording the patient’s response to nursing care planned and implemented
- Evaluating the effect of the nursing care planned delivery.
- Reporting any untoward incidents and investigating the cause To provide a safe environment for the neonate to facilitate optimal neonatal outcomes
- Assisting the senior staff to enable effective patient care by the other qualified members of the ward team
- Regularly taking charge of the unit.
- Participate in the orientation programmes for the newly qualified nurses, nursery nurses and health care assistants
- Participate in the development of the newly qualified nurses, nursery nurses and health care assistants
- Assisting in the overall ward management and the determination of the nursing priorities.
- To be able to develop and foster a team working atmosphere.
- Participating in the clinical education of student nurses
- Using personal teaching and assessing skills and act as clinical supervisor. Demonstrating to and supervising student nurses nursing techniques.
- Identifying teaching/learning opportunities and planning clinical teaching for nursing staff and student nurses.
- Identifying relevant research findings to support clinical practice.
- Organising and participating planned teaching programmes for the ward in conjunction with the senior staff.
- Being an assessor of student/nurses/midwives/ENB 405 students.
- Using counselling skills to benefit of staff, parents, relatives/carers.
- Participate in clinical governance cycle and Trust risk management procedures.
- Ensuring the effective and efficient supply and use of support services and resources
- Maintaining and rotating supplies at the agreed stock levels.
- Participating in the development and testing of new equipment, materials and procedures for patient care.
- Maintaining the safe custody and use of drugs.
- Reporting equipment and furnishings which need repair or replacement.
- Reporting any risks to health and safety to the Clinical Manager.
- Reporting any deficiencies in the support services to the Clinical Manager.
- Contacting as appropriate, other nurses, midwives and health care disciplines and providing written reports on request.
- Preparing written summaries of nursing care and liaising with the Primary Health Care Team on discharge/transfer home.
- To observe the confidentiality of patients information at all times in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
- To participate in multidisciplinary audit.
Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- RGN/RN Child / RM
- Neonatal Qualified In speciality qualification (ENB 405 or equivalent)
- Mentorship in practice (ENB 998 / MIPS)
- NLS trained
Desirable- Child Protection Training
- Effective managerial / leadership skills
ExperienceEssential- Experience at Band 5 within neonatal setting
- Experience & ability to participate within emergency situations within neonatal unit and deliveries
- Excellent neonatal clinical skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills Effective teaching, training and Preceptorship skills
Desirable- Basic knowledge of computers & SEND database Participate in divisional risk management and clinical governance framework
- Sound working experience of Child protection issues
