Job summary
The Stroke fellowship is a one year post-radiology CCT training program, providing clinical experience across the full range of adult stroke and related presentation and pathologies. We are looking for a candidayte who will commence the fellowship in September 2026. The post will be full time and be based at LUHFT, working across AUH and RLUH sites.

The successful candidate will be exposed to all aspects of stroke diagnostic imaging including CT, MRI and vascular ultrasound. The candidates are required to have good foundation in interpretation reporting of CT/MRI brain and angiography. We are a hyperacute stroke unit and receive regional referral. The stroke related interventions are performed at our neighbouring Trust - Walton Neuro Centre. While the post is largely based at LUHFT, there is provision to work collaboratively with Walton Neuro Centre and thus gain further valuable experience.

The fellow will work closely with our experienced and cohesive Stroke Imaging consultant group, participating in interpretation and reporting of stroke imaging (with adequate supervision) and attendance at these MDTs. This is purely a diagnostic post. No on-call requirement.

Main duties of the job
  • Diagnostic Stroke and brain imaging interpretation and reporting
  • Stroke hot reporting and queries
  • Support for specialist MDTs in conjunction with consultants
  • Radiology in-patient and outpatient reporting
  • Participate in quality improvement, audit and clinical governance
  • Provide support/education for resident trainees assigned to the department

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • Medical degree (MBBS, MChB or equivalent)
  • CCT (or eligible within 6 months)
  • Full registration which permits working in non-training posts

Experience
Essential
  • 5 years satisfactory completion of radiology training with FRCR or equivalent
  • Experience of multidisciplinary working
  • Evidence of working independently

Knowledge
Essential
  • Understanding clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies

Desirable
  • Knowledge of medical and clinical audit principles and evidence of active participation n audit
  • Understanding of basic research principles and evidence based practice
  • Evidence of contributing to teaching and learning of others

Skills
Essential
  • Demonstrates appropriate clinical and technical competence and evidence of diagnostic skills and clinical judgement
  • Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge & judgement & prioritise clinical need
  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication with patients and colleagues - demonstrated by having undertaken undergraduate medical training in English OR having achieved a score of 7 in speaking and overall and score of 6 in listening, reading and writing in the IELTS test
  • Able to develop and maintain effective working relationships on an individual, multi-professional and team basis with all levels of staff
  • Able to operate effectively under pressure and remain objective in highly emotive/pressurised situations and to be aware of own limitations
