Main duties of the jobThe Practice Nurse will deliver a range of clinical services within the practice, including cervical screening, immunisations, wound care, NHS Health Checks, and support for long-term condition management. They will work within agreed clinical protocols and national guidelines to ensure safe, effective patient care. A key aspect of the role is supporting patients through health promotion, education, and self-management of long-term conditions. The post holder will also contribute to infection prevention and control, ensuring high standards of clinical practice are maintained at all times. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Practice Nurse will collaborate closely with the GPs, and existing nursing team which includes a senior practice nurse and Advanced Nurse Practitioner, as well as allied healthcare professionals, pharmacists, and administrative colleagues to deliver coordinated patient care. They will maintain accurate clinical records and support quality improvement activities where required. The role requires excellent communication skills, clinical competence, and a patient-focused approach in a busy primary care environment.

Job SummaryThe Practice Nurse is an integral member of the clinical team, responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care within the practice. The post holder will provide a range of clinical services, working within their professional scope of practice and in accordance with current national guidelines and local protocols. The role involves supporting the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred care to the practice population, contributing to improved health outcomes and patient experience.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Duties- Provide cervical screening services in line with national screening programmes
- Administer immunisations and vaccinations (adult and childhood)
- Deliver wound care, dressings, and treatment room services
- Undertake NHS Health Checks and routine health screening
- Perform ECGs as required
- Administer long-acting injections including Depo-Provera, Vitamin B12, and Zoladex in line with patient care plans and protocols
- Support the management of long-term conditions such as diabetes, asthma, COPD, and hypertension
- Assist with infection prevention and control procedures and audits
Patient Care & Health Promotion- Provide health education and lifestyle advice to patients and carers
- Support patients in self-management of long-term conditions

Clinical Governance & Quality- Work within practice protocols, policies, and national clinical guidelines

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current NMC registration
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and commitment to revalidation
Desirable- Qualification in cervical cytology (smear taking)
- Qualification in chronic disease management (e.g. asthma, diabetes, COPD)
- Mentorship or teaching qualification
ExperienceEssential- Experience of working as a Registered Nurse (RGN) in a clinical setting
- Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team in a healthcare environment
- Experience of providing direct patient care in a safe, patient-centred manner
- Experience of delivering vaccinations and immunisations
