Job summarySecondment | 12 months | 30hrs per week | SCH Internal Applicants OnlyAn opportunity has arisen to join the Metabolic Medicine Team. This is initially a one year post, with a view to being permanent if hours become available.
We are seeking a self-motivated, dynamic, and reliable individual, who can demonstrate compassion and empathy and has a passion for working with children from birth to adolescence in highly a specialised area. You will work both closely and independently with members of the multi-disciplinary team. You will liaise and co-ordinate the care for patients with inherited metabolic disorders, including treating and being nurse advocate for patients in several clinical settings including out-patient clinics, Medical Day Care, wards, and outreach work.
About You- RN child qualification
- Several years post training
- Evidence of good time management skills
- Ability to learn and establish care for numerous complex medical metabolic disorders.
- Previous knowledge and experience with medical metabolic patients is desirable.
- Evidence of excellent and adaptable communication skills.
- Ability to work well within a busy multi-disciplinary team.
- Able to respond to problem situations and ensure that effective interventions are put in place.
- Ability to work autonomously.
Main duties of the jobReporting to the Lead Nurse, your responsibilities will include:- Delivering specialist nursing care to a diverse group of patients across multiple settings. This includes planning and evaluating care using appropriate pathways within your specialist area.
- Contribute to development and implementation of policies, guidelines and standard operating procedures.
- Additionally, you will provide guidance and supervision to colleagues and students and develop education and training programs.
- As an advocate for age-appropriate care, you will empower patients and their families, ensuring their needs and voices are heard.
- You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies to facilitate seamless care transitions, collect and analyse data to inform clinical decision-making, and conduct research to improve patient outcomes.

Person SpecificationQualifications and TrainingEssential- RSCN or RN (Child)
- 998 or mentorship / supervisor training
- Current NMC registration
- Relevant post registration qualification as required for speciality
Desirable- Good Clinical Practice GCP certificate
- Clinical skills and pathophysiology module (or willingness to undertake depending on role within speciality)
- Non-Medical Prescribing (depending on role)
ExperienceEssential- Experience of providing clinical advice in relation to the specialist area.
- Experience of determining appropriate solution to problems pulling on different information available.
- Experience of planning provision of care for patients.
- Mentoring experience with nursing students and training/development teaching of junior colleagues
- Experience of writing policies and procedures for different audiences.
KnowledgeEssential- Knowledge of clinical governance activities, including audit, benchmarking and quality improvement.
- Ability to dynamically risk assess clinical situations and respond appropriately.
- Ability to monitor and respond to changes in patient conditions effectively.
- Effective communication skills to provide guidance and education to patients.
