About us
At the Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice and community nursing services across Berkshire West, we look after people living with life-limiting conditions and offer support for families too.

Sue Ryder is here to make sure everyone approaching the end of their life or living with grief can access the support they need. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to how we cope and the help we need, but with our support, no one has to face dying or grief alone. We are there when it matters.

About the role
Our Clinical Nurse Specialists play an essential role in providing high-quality, person centred care for individuals facing life-limiting illnesses.

By combining clinical expertise, emotional intelligence, and leadership skills, they ensure that patients and families experience dignity, comfort, and peace during some of the most challenging times of their lives. Their role enhances the overall quality of palliative care and supports the healthcare team in delivering the best possible outcomes.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Palliative Care Nurse who wants to work in a supportive environment where care of the patients comes first.

Your main duties will be to provide direct assessment, support and advocacy to service users and carers dealing with complex, distressing and life-limiting illnesses.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be responsible for providing support to patients, families, and healthcare professionals, ensuring they receive timely advice and guidance. The role will be primarily based at our Berkshire West Community office in Theale, with travel to the In-Patient Unit at Duchess of Kent Hospice and the South Oxfordshire Palliative Care Hub in Wallingford, working a combination of day and night shifts. Travel will be coordinated from the Theale base.

Responsibilities will include responding to telephone calls, offering appropriate clinical advice, and supporting the wider team to deliver high-quality care across both settings.

The successful candidate will also be expected to have a strong interest in completing their Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP) course as part of their ongoing professional development.

About you
The successful applicant will play an active role within our team. Sue Ryder prides itself on giving our patients the best possible quality of life by providing a holistic and individualised service.

Our ideal candidate will have significant experience of working in Palliative care with evidence of additional, role specific qualifications and professional development.

Sue Ryder provides a thorough induction with supernumerary time to settle into the role.

There is plenty of scope to further develop your own skills in specialist palliative care, and planned career progression through our education programme and development framework is encouraged.
