Job descriptionThe DepartmentWe are looking for enthusiastic and talented Speciality oral surgeon to join our team to develop and deliver excellent care to our local population. The department offers a supportive and encouraging environment in which to develop as a professional. Following a period of time where the oral surgery service was paused, we are delighted to be able to reopen the service for both adult and paediatric patients. We are seeking to recruit a team directly employed by Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.

The service is now ready to reopen and will be located in our new outpatient building with a dedicated team of dental nurses. The appointed candidate is expected to be fully competent to deal with a spectrum of oral surgery patients, there is no on call for this service at the current time.
The specific aims and responsibilities of this post.The appointment to this post has two main aims:
- To join a new team that provides consultant led patient-centred management of Oral Surgical conditions.
- To be a part of developing the service to deliver maximum impact to improve the wait times and experience of patients requiring oral surgery.
ClinicalThe appointee will be expected to share responsibility for the delivery of high-quality care to the patients presenting to the Department. To provide direct care to patients in both outpatient and day case sessions and theatre sessions.
Teaching/Training (as agreed with Clinical Director)To participate in the overall development of the team. To assist and participate with the development of staff as appropriate.
Audit (as agreed with Clinical Director)To promote evidence-based practice. To be involved in risk management and quality assurance. To remain up to date and engaged in CPD as per GDC/RCS guidelines. To respond appropriately to complaints and critical incidents.
Clinical GovernanceTo undertake all work in accordance with Stepping Hill Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust procedures and operating policies. To participate in an annual Job Planning Review process. To participate in the Trusts annual Appraisal process and to respond to any identified development needs. To adhere to the Trusts Adverse Clinical Incident Policy.
Management (as agreed with Clinical Director)To provide medical information for the development of systems appropriate for Trust needs. To participate in departmental consultant and senior staff meetings whilst remaining within the framework of the agreed strategy of the Trust and the Department. To attend other departmental, Divisional and Trust meetings as necessary. To undertake all work in accordance with Trust procedures and operating policies.
TeamworkTo work within the framework of team decisions. To take a whole system to working with the wider health community. To show initiative, enthusiasm and flexibility. The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and promote safeguarding by implementing the Trusts policies and procedures, acting promptly on concerns, communicating effectively and sharing information appropriately. If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary. In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.
Person SpecificationSkillsEssential- Full registration with GDC & License to practice
- Batchelor of Dental Surgery or equivalent
- Post graduate qualification MJDF,MFDS,FDS,MDent surgery or willingness to complete in a specified timeframe
- Significant skills in routine oral surgery
- Membership of appropriate professional society
Desirable- Post Graduate Sedation Qualification and Teaching Qualification
- Evidence of supervision of Junior medical staff
KnowledgeEssential- Significant experience in Oral Surgery
- Management Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance
Desirable- Understanding of managerial responsibilities and it's future development in the role of clinicians in management
ExperienceEssential- Ability to communicate orally and in writing, ability to form good professional relationships, ability to lead where appropriate, teamwork
Desirable- Evidence of involvement in research
