Job summaryUpper Gordon Road Surgery is seeking a motivated and compassionate Practice Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care, supporting chronic disease management, and promoting health and wellbeing within our local community and supporting the wider multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job- Deliver high standards of nursing care to patients within the practice setting
- Undertake chronic disease management including asthma, COPD, diabetes, and hypertension reviews
- Carry out cervical cytology (smears) in line with national screening programmes
- Administer immunisations and vaccinations (including childhood and travel vaccines)
- Perform wound care, dressings, and removal of sutures
- Conduct health promotion and lifestyle advice clinics (e.g. smoking cessation, weight management)
- Carry out NHS health checks and screening programmes
- Assist in infection prevention and control, including maintaining clinical standards and audit processes
- Maintain accurate, contemporaneous patient records in accordance with NHS and practice policies
- Support GPs and the wider multidisciplinary team in delivering patient care
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and practice meetings
- Ensure safe management of clinical stock, vaccines, and equipment
- Contribute to safeguarding processes for vulnerable adults and children

Desirable- Previous experience working as a practice nurse in primary care
QualificationsEssential- 4 GCSEs (C and above) including English and Maths or equivalent
- NMC Registration
- Up-to-date training in immunisation and cervical screening
Desirable- Postgraduate diploma or degree in primary care
- Mentoring/ Teaching qualification
SkillsEssential- Competent in treatment room procedures: wound care ECGs phlebotomy immunisations and cervical screening
- Managing patients with long term conditions such as: diabetes asthma COPD hypertension
- Highly effective communication skills, both written and verbal
