Job summaryPlease note - this post is a fixed term post and will end on 2 February 2027The post is based with the adult community mental health team based at Colburn Medical Centre.
Work will include the diagnosis and management of new and follow up patients referred to the service.
You will work holistically with the patient and carer with a view to treating the patient in the best way possible and looking after any carer related issues.
Main duties of the job- Assess and manage common psychiatric emergencies and conditions.
- Be aware of the procedures for assessment and implementation of detaining /admitting patients under the Mental Health Act.
- Make appropriate referral to other professionals.
- Work with colleagues within the multi-disciplinary setting
- Participate in the resident doctor on-call rota

Person SpecificationClinical Knowledge & SkillsEssential- Good knowledge and experience of working in psychiatry
- Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
Academic Skills and Lifelong LearningEssential- Must be up to date with psychiatric knowledge and mental health service provision in the NHS
Desirable- Ability to teach and pass on knowledge to team members
QualificationsEssential- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable- Postgraduate qualification in psychiatry
EligibilityEssential- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of submitting your application.
ExperienceEssential- Experience of working in psychiatry in the NHS
- Ability to assess and manage common psychiatric emergencies and conditions- including the ability to perform a suicide risk assessment and be aware of the procedures for assessment and implementation of detaining /admitting patients under the Mental Health Act
