Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated senior nurse to join our specialist Pelvic Floor and Functional Bowel Disorders Service. You will play a key role in assessing, diagnosing and managing patients with functional bowel disorders, delivering expert, patient-centred care that improves outcomes and quality of life.

Working alongside the colorectal specialist team and a Specialist Pelvic Health Physiotherapist, you will provide evidence-based bowel and pelvic floor rehabilitation within a supportive multidisciplinary environment. The role offers a high degree of autonomous practice, undertaking advanced clinical assessment, decision-making and conservative management within agreed protocols.

You will provide leadership within specialist clinics and contribute to service development, quality improvement, governance and pathway redesign. As an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, you will work collaboratively to ensure high-quality, seamless care for patients with complex pelvic floor and bowel conditions.

The service receives referrals from Colorectal Surgery and Gastroenterology and works closely with Dietetics, IBD, Gynaecology, Urology, Community Continence Services and other specialist pelvic health teams. Main duties of the job

• As a Colorectal Advanced Nurse, you will be an autonomous specialist practitioner within our Pelvic Floor and Functional Bowel Disorders Service, delivering expert assessment, treatment and ongoing management for patients with complex functional bowel conditions. Working within the boundaries of your expertise, you will manage a specialist caseload and provide evidence-based, patient-centred care that supports improved outcomes and quality of life.
• You will work closely with an experienced Specialist Pelvic Health Physiotherapist and as an integral member of a dynamic multidisciplinary team, delivering coordinated care across the pelvic floor pathway. The role requires highly developed communication skills to support complex clinical decision-making, patient education, treatment planning and long-term self-management.
• In addition to your clinical responsibilities, you will contribute to service development, audit, quality improvement and clinical governance activities, helping to shape and enhance the future delivery of pelvic floor and functional bowel services. You will also play an important role in educating and supporting colleagues, patients and carers, sharing specialist knowledge and promoting best practice across the wider healthcare system.

Qualifications
Essential

• NMC registered Degree level qualification in Adult Nursing
• Teaching and mentorship qualification
• Evidence of continuing personal / professional development
• Post graduate study in Lower Bowel Dysfunction management/Functional Bowel or equivalent experience in managing Colorectal patients.

Desirable

• Masters level qualification or ability to work towards
• Non-medical prescribing qualification or the ability to undertake
• Management / Leadership qualification
• Clinical examination qualification

Knowledge
Essential

• Experience in the management of patients with lower bowel dysfunctions
• Experience of multi-professional collaborative working
• Experience of giving psychosocial support to complex patients
• Experience of adjunct treatment provisions in the management of Lower Bowel Dysfunctions

Desirable

• Broad understanding of healthcare provision
• Participation in service development and implementation of change
• Experience of clinical auditing
• Experience of policy contribution
• Knowledge of budgets and resources
• Experience of teaching in practice
