Job summaryAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a Colorectal Advanced Nurse to join our team and work alongside the colorectal specialist team in assessing and managing patients referred on the urgent suspected cancer pathway (USC).
The role will involve the continued development of a diagnostic pathway with potential to work in results clinics, and assist in the delivery of the USC pathway for colorectal and anal cancer. Good knowledge of colorectal disease and investigations, and an understanding of the current referrals pathways is essential.
Main duties of the job- To work alongside the team of colorectal surgeons in assessing and investigating patients referred on the urgent suspected cancer pathway
- To provide highly specialised nursing care for patients with a potential colorectal or anal cancer diagnosis
- To independently undertake nurse led services, either face to face or via telephone clinics to ensure patients are on the appropriate pathway supported by the lead consultant for colorectal cancer
- To provide psychological support to patients and their families
- To work unsupervised within the boundaries of your expertise and with autonomy in the clinical setting (including independently requesting patient investigations where appropriate)
- To assist in the development of the service, by consultation, treatment intervention, complex and highly skilled communication, aftercare, education, training team building and working
- To provide specialist education and training to other staff, patients and carers
- To provide a leading role in clinical audits and actively participate in relevant research studies.

QualificationsEssential- NMC registered Degree level qualification in Adult Nursing
- Teaching and mentorship qualification
- Evidence of continuing personal / professional development
Desirable- Non-medical prescribing qualification or the ability to undertake
- Post graduate study in Colorectal cancer
- Management / Leadership qualification
- Masters level qualification or ability to work towards
- Clinical examination qualification
KnowledgeEssential- Experience in the management of patients with colorectal and anal cancer
- Experience of multi-professional collaborative working
- Experience of giving psychosocial support to complex patients
Desirable- Broad understanding of healthcare provision
- Participation in service development and implementation of change
- Experience of clinical auditing
- Experience of policy contribution
- Knowledge of budgets and resources
- Experience of teaching in practice
