Applications are invited for the post of Senior Pharmacy Technician-Education, Training and Development based at Lincoln County Hospital.
The Pharmacy Departments within ULHT provide ward based, Dispensary, and Aseptic Dispensing Services to a range of general and specialist areas including Admissions Unit, General Medical and Surgical, Haematology and Oncology and Critical Care wards. We have a good integrated team of Clinical Pharmacists, Technicians and Support Workers and there is a supportive Pharmacy Education and Training team.
This post will be based at Lincoln County Hospital but the successful applicant may need to travel to other sites within the Group. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the existing Weekend and Bank Holiday Rotas within the Pharmacy Dispensary.
Main duties of the jobWe are looking for an experienced Training and Education Pharmacy Technician or an experienced Pharmacy Technician who is looking to develop, with appropriate support, into this role
You will need to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be confident speaking to patients, nursing staff, prescribers and other health care staff. You will be involved in design, and writing induction and appropriate training packages for new staff in liaison with Advanced Specialist Clinical Pharmacist - Training and Development, to induct and train all new Pre-Registration Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians and Pre-registration trainee Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Support workers, Locums and new Pharmacists to competency in Inpatient dispensary Services as appropriate
You will require/or be willing to work towards obtaining a National Vocational Qualification Assessor.
To audit the documentation & recording of induction training and performance monitoring indicators
To identify and inform managers of Clinical Governance Risks, service development, medicines management /optimisation and Health and Safety issues.
Initial assessment and training of Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technicians and bi-annually assess competence of Accuracy Checking pharmacy technicians and carry out assessments of competence of Pharmacy Technicians, Assistants and Pharmacists as required.

Person SpecificationQualifications- NVQ/BTEC in Pharmaceutical sciences or equivalent
- Registration as a pharmacy technician with GPhC
- A1/A2 Assessor (D32/D33)
Desirable- Health and Safety Training Certificate
- Managerial qualification
- Teaching Qualification (eg. City and Guilds 7470)
- V1 (D34)
Previous experience- Minimum 5 years experience working as a technician in hospital pharmacy.
- Reflects on own practice and undertakes CPD
Desirable- Experience of training and mentoring staff.
Evidence of knowledge, skills and aptitudes- Designated Checking Technician
- Able to work unsupervised
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Negotiating and influencing skills
- Good broad understanding of current hospital Pharmacy practice and the NHS
Desirable- Computer and IT skills
- Good knowledge of Pre-Reg Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technician and Assistant training programmes.
