Job summary

Main duties of the job
Our Pharmacy Department is progressive, supportive and nurturing and aim to provide the best patient care possible. You will utilise your clinical skills and experience by providing clinical pharmacy services to wards and other areas, assisting with the training and development of others and supporting the improvement of the services. You will work closely with the MDT and will help maintain a high standard of service. Independent Prescribing is integral to our pharmacist's roles. In these posts you will have the opportunity to develop your clinical knowledge and specialist skills within one of the following Clinical Management Groups; ESM, W&C, and MSSUGGS Post holder will be expected to contribute towards evening, on-call, bank holiday and weekend rotas.

Job responsibilities
You will utilise your clinical skills and experience by providing clinical pharmacy services to wards and other areas, assisting with the training and development of others and supporting the improvement of the services. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team and will help maintain the high standard of services that are already provided. Independent Prescribing is integral to our pharmacists roles.

We have positions available in the following clinical management groups:
Emergency and Specialist Medicine
This team is based across all UHL sites to many area's including:
  • Acute acute and emergency medicine, general medicine, neurology, stroke, geriatrics, diabetes, endocrinology
  • Opportunity to work with many specialties to further develop and lead on local initiatives such as flow and improving discharge process

Musculoskeletal/Specialist Surgery/Urology, Gastroenterology and General Surgery/HPB
This team is based across the LRI, LGH and the Glenfield
  • Trauma, Orthopaedics and Ortho-geriatrics
  • Specialist Surgery (ENT, Plastic, oral and maxillofacial surgery, ophthalmology)
  • Gastro-enterology
  • Colorectal, GI and General Surgery (inc bariatrics)
  • Urology
  • Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary

Women & Children's
In this you will have the opportunity to develop your clinical knowledge and specialist skills within Women's and Children's CMG.This team is based at the LRI and LGH and provides care to many area's including:
  • Neonatology (Based at the LRI and LGH)
  • Obstetric and gynaecology services across the LRI and the LGH
  • General and specialist paediatric services at the LRI including Medicine, Surgery, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, parenteral nutrition and neurology
  • Cardiology, intensive care and ECMO & Paediatric oncology

Person Specification
Training & Qualifications
Essential
  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in pharmacy.
  • Post-graduate certificate in Clinical Pharmacy / Pharmacy practice or evidence of equivalent clinical experience
  • Working towards completion of a Post graduate Diploma/MSc in Clinical Pharmacy/ Pharmacy practice
  • Pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Evidence of post registration commitment to continuing professional development
  • Registered as an Independent Prescriber or ability to complete training upon appointment

Desirable
  • Membership of a professional body e.g. MRPharmS or UKCPA or equivalent specialist group
  • Evidence of Practice Research projects undertaken
  • Registered Independent Prescriber
  • Evidence of leadership training and skills particularly change management

Experience
Essential
  • Approaching 2 years (minimum) post-registration experience in pharmacy practice with relevant clinical experience

Desirable
  • Experience of working in hospital
  • Experience of teaching/tutoring
  • Evidence of achievement in the capacity of clinical/ward pharmacist
  • Experience of on-call/ability to deal with calls out of hours.
