Job summaryAn exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Gastroenterology team as a Pathway Navigator supporting patients on the Suspected 2WW Lower GI Pathway.
You will be responsible for tracking and coordinating patient pathways, managing diagnostic and histology outcomes, and working with clinical teams to ensure patients progress efficiently through their care journey. This role is vital in supporting high-quality patient care and the delivery of key cancer and RTT standards.
Main duties of the job- Act as the key point of contact for patients on the Suspected 2WW Lower GI Pathway, supporting them throughout their diagnostic and treatment journey.
- Coordinate and track patient pathways to ensure timely progression in line with national cancer waiting time standards.
- Monitor diagnostic investigations, histology results, and clinical outcomes, escalating delays and concerns where appropriate.
- Work closely with consultants, specialist nurses, endoscopy teams, and administrative colleagues to facilitate efficient patient care.
- Maintain and update patient tracking systems, ensuring data quality and pathway accuracy.
- Monitor and manage patients awaiting results, ensuring timely follow-up and appropriate onward referrals.
- Assist with the management of clinical correspondence and support compliance with letter turnaround times.
This role is integral to ensuring patients receive timely, high-quality care while supporting the Trust to achieve key operational and cancer performance targets.
About usWe operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our Community Service for adults are provided in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.

Person SpecificationEducation and QualificationsEssential- NVQ3 in Business Administration or equivalent or relevant experience
- GCSE Maths and English Equivalent
DesirableExperienceEssential- Experience of undertaking a range of secretarial duties to include: - Diary management - Typing correspondence - Answering telephone queries - Audio typing
- Knowledge and use of medical terminology
- Experience of using MS Office systems Experience of overseeing a small team of staff
- Word processing skills Audio typing skills
- Patient pathway coordination and tracking
Desirable- Experience of working with spreadsheets and databases
- Experience of using digital dictation machines and software
- Experience of using patient administration systems/databases
- Previous experience as a Secretary in a medical setting
- Results management and escalation
