Job summary
We are seeking a qualified Dexa Reporting and Lead Radiographer to join our developing Dexa service. Applications may also be accepted from experienced Dexa Radiographers who are seeking a development opportunity and are willing to undertake the required training to gain a reporting qualification.

You will be based at the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) in Newmarket where you will be required to participate in the management of the clinical workload as well as reporting. You will have working with new technology in a new Community facility.

Please note: If you are recruited as a trainee Dexa reporting Radiographer you will be paid at AfC band 6 throughout the training period (approximately 12 - 18 months) and will move to band 7 upon successful completion of post-graduate qualification, achievement of required competencies and approval to report autonomously. There will be a requirement to attend ad-hoc training days at the West Suffolk Hospital site throughout the training period.

The working hours of the post are extended days (0800 - 2000) across a 7-day working pattern.

Main duties of the job
Undertake Dexa reporting in line with departmental protocols. You will be expected to participate in the planning, organisation, leadership and management of the Dexa service.

Play an integral role in delivering the Dexa and x-ray service, working clinically when required.

Maintain an interest in the profession and knowledge of new techniques and protocols, attending courses where necessary, in line with service demand. Continue a personal development plan with guidance from the appraisal system, updating knowledge in specialist area.

Participate in the training program in place for radiography students and on occasions other students, from school leavers to junior doctors. Assist and guide more junior and/or newly qualified Radiographer Reporting Practitioners. Provide regular lectures/training to enhance radiographers' learning for their CPD.

The West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds provides acute and secondary care services (emergency department, maternity and neonatal services, day surgery unit, eye treatment centre, Macmillan unit and children's ward). Education and qualifications
Essential

• Recognised post-graduate qualification in Dexa x-ray reporting or willingness to work towards
• Degree or equivalent in Diagnostic Radiography.
• Valid HCPC registration.

Desirable

• Previous demonstrable Dexa reporting experience within NHS Trust.
• Completion of NOS or equivalent DXEA theoretical training

Experience and knowledge
Essential

• At least 1 year Dexa Clinical Experience
• Demonstrable leadership experience
• A good understanding of the Quality Standard for Imaging (QSI)
• Demonstrable experience of managing conflicting demands and priorities, carrying out the role of team leader.
• Evidence of recent experience working in a dynamic NHS Radiology department
• Practical (acquisition and analysis) and Theoretical (osteoporosis and falls, risk factors, treatments) knowledge of DEXA
• Knowledge of Royal Osteoporotic Society (ROS) and NICE guidelines for the provision of DEXA scanning services

• Experience of observing Dexa reporting of a qualified practitioner
