Job summary
We are looking for a conscientious, salaried GP to become part of our supportive and collaborative team, providing high quality, patient centred care within a well organised and established Practice.

We are offering up to 8 sessions per week on a fixed term contract to the 31st March 2027, with potential to extend

Salary is £11,900 per session.

Contract based on BMA standard contract.

We would love to have an informal chat with any interested candidate. We have flexibility around both the number of sessions and the working pattern, to suit the right applicant.

Main duties of the job
Provide a full range of medical services as defined in the core GMS contract and additional enhanced services.

In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/ herself available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations, triaging and undertaking home visits, triaging and responding to online consultations. General GP administrative tasks including responding to queries from the team, dealing with results, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.

To record clear and contemporaneous computer-based consultation notes to agreed standards using Systm1.

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.

Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.

About us
Situated in the heart of beautiful Weymouth Bay, Weymouth Bay Medical Practice is a large friendly GP practice in Weymouth, Dorset (previously known as Royal Crescent and Preston Road Practice and Dorchester Road Practice) and both practices were inspected previously and were rated as Outstanding and Good by the Care Quality Commission.

The Practice has 26,500 patients with 3 purpose-built surgeries, one in the town centre of Weymouth (Royal Crescent Surgery), one in Lodmoor (Dorchester Road Surgery) and one on the outskirts, in the area of Preston (Preston Road Surgery).

We are a training practice with a dedicated team of 22 GP Partners and 70 nursing and administrative staff, and we value the contribution of each person.

Job responsibilities
A Salaried GP works as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population as outlined in the GMS and enhanced service contracts

Furthermore, the post-holder will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the Salaried GP in delivering health services.
  • The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled population
  • The provision of services commensurate with the primary care contract
  • To clinically examine and assess patient needs from a physiological and psychological perspective and plan clinical care accordingly referring patients to other services/agencies in a timely manner, utilising Practice and any other local guidelines
  • Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance
  • Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care
  • Effective management of long-term conditions
  • To support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles and apply principles of self-care
  • Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks such as tasks and clinic letters.
  • Review medications following the appropriate policies, NICE/local clinical guidelines and local care pathways
  • Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy and guidance
  • Work collaboratively, accepting an agreed share of the practice workload
  • Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit process
  • Support the delivery of anticipatory care plans
  • Contribute to the successful implementation of continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the practice
  • Contribute to the Practices QOF performance.
  • Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as required
  • Contribute effectively to the development and maintenance of the practice including clinical governance and training
  • Be aware of your duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children
  • Ensure compliance with the appraisal process
  • Prepare and complete the revalidation process to remain fit to practice
  • Commit to self-learning and instill an ethos of continuing professional development across the practice team
  • Review and always adhere to practice protocols and policies
  • Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staff regularly, always promoting a culture of continuous improvement
  • To be an integral part of the general practice team as well as supporting the wider network and multi-disciplinary team
  • There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks, this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels

Wider responsibilities
In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Salaried GP has the following wider responsibilities:
  • Participate in the spectrum of clinical governance processes
  • Participate in formal training events
  • Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • Qualified GP
  • MRCGP
  • Vocational Training Certificate or equivalent JCPTGP
  • Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)

Experience
Essential
  • Ability to both work autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of working in a primary care environment
  • Experience of providing home visits
  • General understanding of the primary care contract
  • Proven ability to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of own clinical practice

Desirable
  • Minimum of two years as a salaried GP
  • An appreciation of the NHS landscape and relationship between individual organisations, PCNs and the commissioners

Eligibility
Essential
  • Full GMC registration
  • Performers List registration noting that confirmation on this list is adequate for DBS confirmation - England conforms to the National Performers List and is able to perform any such service as detailed within Regulation 24 of the National Health Service (Performers Lists) (England) Regulations 2013.
  • Appropriate defence indemnity
  • Evidence of current validation
  • Evidence of last appraisal
  • Eligibility to practice in the UK independently
