Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Full Time Specialty Doctor in ENT. The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated team player to join our well-established ENT team on a fixed term 12-month basis.

Applicants must hold MBBS and MRCS or equivalent and must have a minimum of one-year clinical experience at ST1/2 level in Otolaryngology. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in a 1 in 7 non-resident joint on-call rota between the Countess of Chester Hospital and Arrowe Park Hospital.

Applicants must hold full registration with the GMC with a licence to practice.

The hospital is situated in a beautiful location on the outskirts of the historic Roman City of Chester. We are within easy access of Manchester Airport, North Wales and the Lake District. The Trust is committed to continued professional development, and to a culture of ongoing service improvement.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be accountable to the Lead Clinician in ENT.All employees of the Trust have a responsibility for their own health and wellbeing, to inform their manager and seek timely support via the Trust's Occupational Health and Wellbeing department.

All employees of the Trust have the responsibility to comply with the Trust's infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times. Strict adherence to effective hand hygiene is essential.

You have a responsibility to respond to any safeguarding children or adult concerns that you encounter in your everyday duties. You must report any concerns as appropriate to your immediate and the relevant safeguarding lead within the Trust.

About us
The Trust's services are provided from three locations:
  • The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 473 general and acute beds.
  • Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 60 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility.
  • Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust employs 5,964 staff (headcount) to provide care and treatment to a population of over 400,000 people living in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire.

The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care System. Due to its location on the border with North Wales, the Trust also works closely with the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.

The Trust treats patients from England and some parts of Wales. During 2024/2025, there were approximately 643,000 patient attendances (inpatient, A&E, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery.

Essential
  • MBBS or equivalent

Clinical Experience and Effectiveness
Essential
  • Minimum 3 years at SHO level in ENT or equivalent experience
  • Basic Surgical techniques

  • Registrar level experience in ENT
  • SHO level experience in General Surgery or related specialties
  • UK/NHS based experience
  • Peer reviewed publications
