Description

Job summary
The Gastro-Intestinal (GI) Surgery and Gastroenterology departments at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust are nationally and internationally recognised centres of excellence, delivering specialist care for patients with a wide range of benign and malignant gastrointestinal conditions. The departments provide both local and highly specialised regional services, accepting referrals from across London, the South East and beyond for the assessment and management of complex gastrointestinal disease.

The services combine both medical and surgical expertise, providing patients with access to comprehensive diagnostic, therapeutic and interventional care throughout their treatment journey. This integrated approach enables patients to receive coordinated, high-quality care from diagnosis through to treatment, recovery and long-term follow-up. The departments are committed to delivering outstanding clinical outcomes while ensuring patients receive compassionate, personalised care based on the latest evidence and best practice.

Main duties of the job
The Upper GI Senior Clinical Fellow will provide support to the Upper GI unit in the form of outpatient clinics, endoscopy and theatre sessions, in addition to ward cover and administrative duties attached to these clinical commitments. Academic activity during the post is actively encouraged. The post is an accredited oesophago-gastric cancer fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons and is designed to provide a platform for Consultant promotion. There is a successful precedent of Consultant appointments of the last 11 post-holders.

About us
Our Trust values
Our Trust values define who we are as an organisation and help shape our culture. They guide us in all our behaviours, actions and interactions which underpin how we do things.

These values were developed with the input of almost 1,800 colleagues. This has ensured that that they reflect what has changed both in our organisation and the wider world, and that they express what we want to be like, both now and in the future.

Whether you work at Guy's Hospital, St Thomas' Hospital, Evelina London Children's Hospital, Royal Brompton Hospital, Harefield Hospital, our off-site offices, or in our community services in Lambeth or Southwark, our values are relevant to you.

The values were launched in 2024, at the same time as our Trust strategy. The strategy sets out 'what' we will do, the values are the 'how' we will do it.

Our values...
Caring - we put patients first
Ambitious - we innovate and strive for excellence
Inclusive - we respect each other and work collaboratively
