Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Midwife to join our Maternity leadership team as the Quality and Governance Matron. This role is available with an on-site or hybrid pattern, and we are open to conversations about flexibility with working hours.

You will lead, coordinate and advise on all aspects of clinical quality, risk management and governance processes across maternity services. You will be an integral part of the maternity leadership team ensuring we are embedding learning from incidents and patient feedback within the service as we continue our progress.

Main duties of the job
The Quality and Governance Matron will lead, co-ordinate and advise on all aspects of clinical quality, risk management, governance processes in Maternity services.

The post holder will be required to review, define, scope, plan, manage and deliver activities associated with the quality agenda for Maternity and Midwifery services. Clear outcome measures will need to be established to ensure that systems and processes are in place to consistently meet local and national standards and policy. The post holder will lead on key initiatives such as NHS Resolution Maternity Safety Actions (CNST).

The post holder will be an excellent, visible midwifery leader and credible role model with expert clinical knowledge and experience and sound understanding of governance processes. The post holder will be instrumental in monitoring performance and delivery of excellence in clinical care.

Duties will include leading investigations into serious incidents and potential litigation cases, ensuring timely investigations into all serious incidents and preparation of preliminary reports. The Post Holder will implement, monitor and develop the maternity clinical risk management strategy in line with the Trust's clinical risk management strategy.

The post holder will lead the Maternity Risk and Governance team, as well as provide leadership and support for healthcare governance activities within maternity services.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential
  • Registered Midwife
  • BSc degree qualification
  • Previous experience in a Governance related role

Desirable
  • MSc or working towards

Experience and Knowledge
Essential
  • Substantial experience at Band 7 or senior Band 6 position
  • Knowledge of Maternity Governance
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and risk management

Desirable
  • Experience of going through a change in practice as a result of a risk management issue

Skills
Essential
  • Good communicator with colleagues, even in challenging situation
  • Understanding clinical quidelines
  • Ability to produce a chronology of care provided
  • Ability to meet deadlines
