Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Anaesthetic Practitioner to join our Theatre Department at Kettering General Hospital. Working across a wide range of specialties including Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Urology, Breast, ENT and Maxillofacial Surgery, you will play a key role in delivering safe, effective and high-quality perioperative care.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary theatre team, providing expert anaesthetic support and contributing to the smooth running of both elective and emergency services, including participation in the out-of-hours on-call rota. Applicants must be either an HCPC-registered Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) or an NMC-registered Nurse with a recognised post-registration anaesthetic qualification.

We are looking for a dedicated professional with a passion for patient care, strong perioperative knowledge and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Main duties of the job
  • Maintain a safe, welcoming and caring environment in line with NMC/HCPC and CQC standards
  • Support patients undergoing surgery and provide high-quality anaesthetic care
  • Prepare and check specialist anaesthetic equipment, drugs and airway management devices
  • Work as part of the multidisciplinary theatre team to support safe patient care and effective patient flow
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised, evidence-based care
  • Support the day-to-day running of the department and contribute to service improvement
  • Supervise and support junior colleagues and unqualified staff when required, maintaining high standards of care

Qualifications
Essential
  • NMC Registered Anaesthetic or Registered Operating Department Practitioner
  • Evidence of post registration study in peri-operative care, NVQ level study or equivalent
  • Evidence of Accredited Post-Graduate Anaesthetic Module/Course
  • Educated to Degree Level or equivalent level of education, training or experience

Knowledge & Experience
Essential
  • Post Registration experience as band 5 staff nurse/ODP or equivalent in Theatres
  • Relevant experience in a peri anaesthesia care environment
  • Evidence of involvement in teaching and mentoring learners
  • Evidence of ability to supervise members of the team

Desirable
  • NHS experience

Skills
Essential
  • Ability to work under pressure and effective time management
  • Resuscitation skills and the knowledge to initiate appropriate action in a clinical emergency.
  • Airway management skills.
