Job summary
Old Road Medical practice is looking to welcome an experienced and qualified phlebotomist into our busy practice for a 3-month-term contract, to support our nursing team, with hours and pay-scale to be discussed at interview. The role will involve working at both out main practice site and at our branch surgery in St Osyth.

Main duties of the job

• Working strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols to assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care;
• Collecting samples of blood in accordance with training and procedures, ensuring correct storage, labelling, recording and efficient dispatching of samples;
• Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible, and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample;
• Checking patient identification against GP or nurse request, and confirming with the patient whenever possible;
• Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff;
• Notifying the GP of any significant patient issues;
• Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team.

Qualifications
Essential

• Minimum of a Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care

Experience
Essential

• Relevant qualification and clinical knowledge and skills in venepuncture essential - please do not apply without this;
• Experience of working in a healthcare setting, ideally within primary care;
• Ability to record accurate clinical notes;
• Consistently confidential, compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues;
• Ability to communicate effectively, and to understand the needs of the patient;
• Strength in problem-solving, with the ability to process information accurately and effectively, interpreting data as required;
• Flexibility and an adaptable approach;
• Commitment to ongoing professional development;
• Full driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential, as travel between our two sites will be required.
