At New Court Surgery, we are looking for a compassionate, professional and highly organised Phlebotomist to join our friendly and supportive primary care team. Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a safe, efficient and professional phlebotomy service to our patients, ensuring samples are collected, labelled and processed accurately. You will work closely with the wider clinical team to support patient care, maintain clinical standards and contribute to the smooth running of our treatment room services.

The role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail and a caring approach, as you will regularly support patients who may be anxious about blood tests. You will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records, adhering to infection prevention and control procedures, managing clinical stock within your area of work and helping to ensure an excellent patient experience at all times. As part of a multidisciplinary practice team, you will be expected to work collaboratively and contribute to the delivery of high-quality primary care services.

Job responsibilities
The Phlebotomist is responsible for providing a high-quality, safe and efficient phlebotomy service for patients attending New Court Surgery. The post holder will work as part of the multidisciplinary team, undertaking venepuncture procedures, ensuring accurate sample collection and handling, and supporting the delivery of excellent patient care within a busy primary care setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform venepuncture procedures for patients in accordance with practice policies, clinical protocols and professional standards.
• Accurately identify patients and ensure all samples are correctly labelled and processed.
• Prepare, handle and dispatch blood samples to the appropriate laboratory in line with requirements.
• Maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records using the clinical system.
• Provide reassurance and support to patients who may be anxious or distressed during procedures.
• Recognise and respond appropriately to adverse reactions during and following blood collection.
• Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control at all times.
• Ensure clinical rooms are clean, well-stocked and appropriately prepared for patient appointments.
• Monitor and report low stock levels of consumables and equipment.
• Follow all safeguarding, health and safety, information governance and confidentiality policies.
• Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, healthcare assistants and administrative colleagues to support excellent patient care.
• Participate in mandatory training, team meetings and continuing professional development activities.

Experience
Essential

• Experience of undertaking venepuncture in a healthcare setting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm and professional when supporting anxious patients.
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Understanding of infection prevention and control procedures.
• Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and dignity.
• Basic IT skills and ability to use clinical systems.

Desirable

• Previous experience working within General Practice or Primary Care.
• Knowledge of System One clinical system.
• Awareness of current NHS standards and guidelines.
• Care Certificate or relevant healthcare qualification.
