Job summary
Bodnant Medical Centre is looking to appoint an enthusiastic, reliable and compassionate Phlebotomist to join our friendly primary care team.

The successful applicant will provide a high-quality, professional and patient-centred phlebotomy service to our registered patients.

Main duties of the job

• Undertake venepuncture safely and effectively for adults and, where appropriate, children.
• Confirm patient identity and ensure appropriate consent is obtained before procedures.
• Correctly label and handle blood samples in accordance with practice and laboratory procedures.
• Prepare samples appropriately for transportation to the laboratory.
• Maintain accurate and timely patient records.
• Recognise and respond appropriately to patients who become unwell during or following venepuncture.
• Maintain infection prevention and control standards at all times.
• Ensure clinical equipment and the phlebotomy area are clean, safe and appropriately maintained.
• Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with practice policies and relevant legislation.
• Communicate effectively and sensitively with patients, relatives and members of the wider healthcare team.
• Report any clinical concerns, incidents, equipment issues or difficulties with venepuncture to the appropriate member of staff.
• Work within the limits of your competence and undertake appropriate training and development.

About us
Bodnant is a busy Practice based in upper Bangor close to the university. We have around 11,000 patients with 9 GP's, 3 nurses, 1 ANP and 2 HCA.

Person Specification
Experience
Essential

• Experience of working within a GP practice

Desirable

• Knowledge of NHS Wales procedures and primary care services.
• Previous experience working within a GP practice or primary care setting.
• Experience of using primary care clinical systems.

Qualifications
Essential

• Relevant phlebotomy training and/or demonstrable experience in venepuncture.
• Evidence of competence in taking blood samples safely.
• Understanding of infection prevention and control.
• Understanding of patient confidentiality and information governance.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to follow clinical procedures and practice protocols.
• Commitment to safeguarding patients and maintaining professional boundaries.
