Job summary
Phlebotomist to cover maternity leave for the next 6 months. Providing venepuncture to the PCN patients who are booked into the PCN hub based at Richmond Medical Centre.

Saturday 9am - 12pm

Main duties of the job
The following are the core responsibilities of the phlebotomist. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels

• Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample
• Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols
• Maintaining accurate patient records on Emis Web
• The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples
• Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies
• Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner
• Maintaining an effective liaison with the laboratory staff at Royal Lancaster Infirmary
• Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters

Job responsibilities
This is a part time role working within the enhanced access service on a weekend.

The post-holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture, as requested by the clinical team, to the entitled patient population.

Experience
Essential

• Experience of working in a primary care environment
• Experience of working with the general public
• Experience of working in a healthcare setting
• Venepunture

Desirable

• Ability to record accurate clinical notes

Qualifications
Essential

• Qualification in venepuncture
• Good standard of general education
