Job summary
Ready to bring your energy, leadership and clinical expertise to the frontline? We're excited to offer a brand-new Band 7 Sister/Charge Nurse role in our Emergency Department, right at the heart of a dynamic and evolving service.

Our ED is a fast-moving, high-impact environment where no two shifts are ever the same. You'll lead from the front, managing the shop floor and keeping patient flow safe, efficient, and responsive--whether it's a busy morning surge or a full-on night shift. If you thrive on pace, pressure, and purpose, this is the role for you.

This is your chance to shape standards, support your team, and make a real difference to patient experience--every single shift.

Brings strong, visible clinical leadership within emergency or acute care
Thrives in a busy, unpredictable environment and keeps calm under pressure
Is passionate about team development, patient safety, and high standards of care
Degree-level education (or working towards) or equivalent experience
Current NMC registration
Proven experience in clinical leadership within ED or acute medicine
Post-registration qualification in emergency care (e.g. ALS, ATNC/ATCC)
Post-registration teaching/education qualification (or working towards) and mentorship qualification
Includes day and night shifts
A role where you'll truly lead, influence and innovate

Main duties of the job
The leadership element of this role is essential and candidates must be able to demonstrate their skills to:
  • Be a role model / effective leader
  • Exercise leadership skills to act as a catalyst for change.
  • Develop and co-ordinate effective team working
  • Communicate on a regular basis with team regarding trust objectives, plans & business developments

This is an ideal opportunity for a motivated, experienced and dynamic nurse to drive the improvement and success of the emergency department.

The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) is the main provider of acute and specialist care services in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We serve a population of around 500,000 people - a figure that can increase significantly with visitors during the busiest times of the year. Person Specification

Qualifications
Essential
  • RGN
  • Post Registered emergency nursing/acute medicine degree qualification or equivalent
  • ALS

Desirable
  • Diploma/Degree in nursing.

Experience
Essential
  • Demonstrable registration experience in acute medicine or Accident & Emergency.
  • Accident & Emergency or acute medicine leadership experience.
  • Wide range of clinical experience.
  • Supervision of learners and preceptors.

Skills
Essential
  • Experience of teaching qualified nurses, learners, junior doctors, patients/carers.
  • Knowledge of resources management issues.
  • Good numeracy skills.
