Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced paediatric diabetes dietitian to join our team here at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust for a 12 month maternity cover.

The post will be joining our paediatric diabetes dietetic team which consists of 2 band 7 dietitians (one of which is this post), a band 6 dietitian and a band 4 dietetic assistant practitioner. The team are supported by an experienced MDT team of consultants, PDSNs, psychologists, youth workers and play therapists.

The team work cross site at Royal Derby Hospital and Queens Hospital Burton. Having a driving license and access to a car for work purposes is essential.

Main Duties of the Job
The posts will include working with paediatric diabetes patients and their families/ carers in a variety of settings including, inpatient wards, outpatient clinics and remote clinics via phone or video. The service also offers home and school visits. Being able to travel cross site (Derby and Burton) and to visits around Derbyshire and East Staffordshire is essential.

The applicant must have experience in independently managing:
  • hybrid closed loop insulin pumps
  • CGMs
  • Diabetes care in infants and young children including neonatal diabetes

The post will also include audit, quality improvement and service development as well as supporting junior staff members.

The department is committed to student training and dietetic apprenticeship. You will be involved in delivering placements for A, B and C placements.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Training
Essential
  • Dietetic Degree
  • HCPC registration
  • Evidence of post graduate paediatric diabetes training
  • Evidence of post graduate paediatric training

Desirable
  • Evidence of facilitation of learning training
  • Counselling or motivational interviewing
  • Leadership training
  • Member of specialist group eg BDA paediatric diabetes subgroup

Experience
Essential
  • Evidence of working as a paediatric diabetes dietitian in an NHS role
  • Evidence of leadership within role
  • Evidence of student training
  • Evidence of MDT working
  • Evidence of supporting junior staff members

Desirable
  • Evidence of service development
  • Evidence of working as an advanced specialist paediatric diabetes dietitian
  • Evidence of service planning

Knowledge
Essential
  • Advanced knowledge and evidence of independently managing insulin therapy including hybrid closed loop pumps
  • Knowledge and evidence of independently managing diabetes in young children including neonatal, infants and babies
  • Advanced knowledge of carbohydrate counting
  • Knowledge of quality improvement processes and evidence of implementing these in practice
  • Knowledge of type 2 diabetes and evidence of working with these patients in paediatrics

Desirable
  • Knowledge and experience of working with coeliac disease
  • Knowledge of exercise management in type 1 diabetes
