Job summary
University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) is seeking an enthusiastic Consultant Gynaecologist to join its supportive multidisciplinary team. This is an excellent opportunity for a clinician with an interest in benign gynaecology, particularly pelvic pain and endometriosis, to help develop high-quality, patient-centred services and improve outcomes and experiences for women and families.

The successful candidate will have opportunities to develop specialist interests and leadership responsibilities while contributing to teaching, training, clinical governance and service improvement. Main duties of the job

• Provide high-quality consultant-led care for patients with benign gynaecological conditions, including pelvic pain and endometriosis.
• Contribute to the assessment, treatment planning and ongoing management of patients across outpatient, inpatient and surgical pathways.
• Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, evidence-based and compassionate care
• Support the development of specialist pathways and continuous improvement in access, outcomes and patient experience.
• Participate in teaching, training, clinical governance, audit and quality-improvement activity.
• Contribute to departmental leadership and the wider objectives of the Gynaecology service.

Job responsibilities
The initial job plan will average 10 programmed activities (PAs) per week. A final job plan will be agreed with the Clinical Director and reviewed after three months. The number and timing of clinics will reflect service requirements and the successful candidates specialist interests.

The job plan is a prospective agreement setting out the consultants duties, responsibilities and objectives for the coming year. It will cover all aspects of professional practice, including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities, together with a clear schedule of internal and external commitments, personal objectives and the support required to deliver them.All consultant job plans are reviewed annually following team and individual job-planning meetings, and the postholder will be expected to participate. Duties may be reviewed as service requirements change; any amendments will be mutually agreed between the appointee and the Assistant Clinical Director, with the approval of the Clinical Director.

On-call commitmentThe post will mainly provide out-of-hours gynaecology on-call cover at Royal Derby Hospital. The rota is currently 1 in 10 and attracts a 3% on-call availability supplement.

Typical shifts Weekday gynaecology ward day: 09:0017:00. Weekday overnight on call: non-resident, 17:0009:00. Weekend: 48-hour on-call commitment, including an inpatient ward round from 09:0011:00 on Saturday and Sunday.

Qualifications & Eligibility
Essential

• MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification equivalent
• ATSM in Advanced laparoscopy for the excision of benign disease/ SITM Management of complex non-malignant disease completed at a BSGE accredited centre.
• Full GMC Registration with a license to practice at time of application

Desirable

• Additional higher medical / scientific degree relevant to the specialty
• Fellowship in Endometriosis
• GMC Specialist Register for Obstetrics Specialty OR within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview OR If applying for Full GMC Registration & Licence to Practice simultaneously with a Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) application, supporting documentary evidence must be provided at interview, to confirm an application has been submitted & is under consideration by the GMC
• ATSM/SITM: Gynaecology surgical care

Clinical Experience
Essential

• A minimum 24 months experience working in a United Kingdom Health Care setting
• Experience in advanced laparoscopic Gynaecological surgery including endometriosis independently eg TLH
• Experienced and competent in performing a range of benign gynaecology surgery independently.
• Experience of working as a ST7 and above in the NHS

Desirable

• Experience in gynae scanning.

Management & Administrative Experience
Essential

• Commitment to Continuing Professional Development & the requirements of clinical governance.
• Evidence of ability to work as part of a MDT
• Experience of formal presentations

Desirable

• Attended a management course for consultants.

Teaching Experience
Essential

• Experience of & commitment to teaching undergraduates & postgraduates
• Experience of supervising F1, F2, ST trainees.

Desirable

• Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to under-graduates
• Specific teaching qualification
• Attended a recognised teaching training course
