Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly, innovative and supportive Neonatal/Paediatric Therapy Team.

This exciting Band 7 opportunity involves working across neonatal and paediatric services, supporting infants and children with eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties.

The post holder will provide specialist assessment, diagnosis and intervention for preterm/vulnerable babies, supporting the implementation of developmental care.

The post will also include working closely with families and the wider multidisciplinary team. The role provides a chance to work at an advanced level on the Neonatal Unit in a supportive environment alongside experienced Neonatal Therapists. Youll play a key role in providing specialist assessment and management of neonatal feeding and communication difficulties.

The post is for 22.5 hours per week and benefits from well-established collaborative links with the Speech and Language Therapist working for the Yorkshire and Humber Neonatal Operational Delivery Network, providing excellent opportunities for regional collaboration and shared learning.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide specialist clinical expertise and advice on assessment, diagnosis and management of neonates, babies and young children with dysphagia
  • To influence and contribute to whole service development in developing care pathways for this client group
  • To continue to develop demonstrable skills in the assessment, diagnosis and management of neonates, babies and young children with dysphagia
  • To provide clinical expertise to the multi-disciplinary team to inform their decision making and to provide advice and guidance to carers, non-clinical staff or members of other professions, who may be influenced by this and to maintain professional relationships with relevant others, working as part of the wider team
  • To participate in the planning and implementation of the day to day operation of the Speech and Language Therapy Service to this client group and to liaise with community specialists and leads in children with dysphagia
  • To provide support, training and education to the multi-disciplinary team and other professionals, regarding optimal feeding practice in the management of infants with complex feeding and swallowing problems
  • To provide clinical supervision, peer support and advice to Speech and Language Therapists practising in this area (if applicable).

Experience
Essential
  • Proven relevant continuous professional development in paediatric dysphagia, including neonates

Knowledge and Awareness
Essential
  • Highly developed Substantial specialist experience of a range of clinical protocols in paediatric dysphagia including neonates, infants and children
  • Proven clinical competence in the assessment, diagnosis and management of children with dysphagia including neonates, infants and children
  • Experience co-ordinating the work of others
  • Substantial experience in developing, writing, delivering and evaluating training to others including groups
  • Substantial Knowledge of contemporary issues in the Health, Education and Social Care Community relevant to the client group.
  • To demonstrate substantial and comprehensive skills in the field of paediatric dysphagia, neonates and young children, including the provision of specialist programmes of intervention
  • Substantial knowledge of the functions of related professions with this client group.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Degree in Speech and Language Pathology and Therapy, or equivalent.
  • RCSLT Certificate to Practice as a Speech and Language Therapist
  • Current registration with the Health Professions Council
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Paediatric Dysphagia

Desirable
  • Advanced Post Graduate Certificate in Paediatric Dysphagia
